An Earlimart man was arrested Friday after Tulare County sheriff's deputies say he pointed a gun at them while they were trying to apprehend him. The sheriff's department said in a news release that deputies and gang suppression detectives were sent to a home in the 400 block of North Thompson Road to conduct a probation search and serve two warrants on Rosario Ayon, 19. Ayon and his girlfriend, Lydia Acosta, 19, ran when authorities arrived.

A 15-year-old boy has died in Tulare County after being hit by a car that drove away, the California Highway Patrol said Monday. About 11 p.m. Saturday, a Honda Civic was involved in a minor non-injury collision and came to rest on the east shoulder of northbound Highway 99 at Avenue 80 between Pixley and Earlimart, the CHP said.

For weeks, the new slides, swings, picnic tables and barbecue grills have been shining like beacons, drawing a parade of curious residents, especially little ones. "We finally had to put padlocks on the gate," said Marie Macedo, a founding member of Earlimart Rotary Club, which took on the park makeover as a community service project. Having the park open again will save money on gas, said Faustina Magana of Earlimart, a grandmother who helps care for a 3-year old boy and 6-year-old girl. "Usually, I go to Delano or sometimes Tulare," she said.
Man jailed in Tulare County on animal cruelty charges after dog found dead
A Tulare County man was booked on charges on animal cruelty and assault on a peace officer Monday morning in Earlimart, the county Sheriff's Department reported. The incident took place about 10 a.m. in the 600 block of South Front Street. A sheriff's spokesperson said deputies responded to a report a man was beating a dog. Angel Navarro, 27, was under the influence and fought with deputies, the spokesperson said. He was booked into the Tulare County jail.
Water bank project in southern San Joaquin Valley nearing approval
It's too late for the current drought, but an ambitious water bank project in the southern San Joaquin Valley would give farmers a supplemental supply in future dry spells. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation kick-started the water bank with a $6.65 million pledge toward a 560-acre recharge basin between Earlimart and Tulare east of Highway 99. Water from the Friant-Kern Canal would be piped to the basin and percolate into the soil, and in dry years the water would be pumped out so farmers could irrigate orchards and crops.
2011 Shooting Suspect Sentenced To 40 Years To Life In Prison
A 21-year-old Earlimart man has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison, for an attempted murder in 2011 that left a person a severely disabled. According to a statement released by the Tulare County District Attorney's Office Wednesday afternoon, Jacinto Magallanes was found guilty by a jury on February 29, of a count attempted murder with premeditation and deliberation, and a count of carjacking.

An 8-month-old boy was placed with the Child Welfare Service after three suspects took the baby along with them to an armed robbery at a Shell gas station in Ducor on Thursday. An armed suspect went into the gas station in the 23000 block of Avenue 56, east of Highway 65, around 10 a.m. The robber left with an undisclosed amount of cash and jumped into a vehicle, which contained two others and a baby, parked outside the business.

The Earlimart man found dead in a car on Saturday has been identified as 28-year-old Rogelio Gerardo Lopez, according to the Tulare County Sheriff's Office. The Corcoran Police Department issued a news release Friday and said Rolando Villagrana, 31, ran away from a Corcoran home before police arrived to investigate reports that Villagrana had molested a child at the home.
